Elijah asked the pagan prophets of Baal to put more water on the sacrifice he was giving to the living God.
450 prophets is the answer :)
Elijah taught us to be kind and giving to thy neighbour, the prophets were seen as the unworthy when Elijah was with them, this is what they wanted to change
The prophet who executed the prophets of Baal after God consumed his offering with fire was Elijah.
The prophet was Elijah.
King Ahab
This event happened on Mount Carmel. The Carmel range of mountains extend about 30 miles and the highest point is 1800 ft. It is not know at what point along this range Elijah encountered the prophets of Baal.
When the prophets of Baal prayed for Baal to send fire, nothing happened. Despite their fervent pleas and efforts, Baal remained silent and did not respond to their prayers. This event is described in the Bible in the story of Elijah and the prophets of Baal in 1 Kings 18.
King Ahab and his wife Jezebel were the evil rulers of the northern kingdom. Elijah 3 years prior proclaimed there would be a drought and no rain, but now God tells Elijah to go and talk to Ahab and there will be rain. Elijah tells Ahab to gather all the prophets of Baal and the prophets of Asherah on Mount Carmel. It was the false prophets of Baal (450) that were killed ( I Kings 18.)
The prophet Elijah called down fire from heaven when he challenged the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel in a contest to show the true power of God. God answered Elijah's prayer by sending fire to consume the offering, proving that He is the one true God.
Eliyahu (Elijah) set up a showdown, during which the idolatrous "prophets" of the baal produced no results from their god, but the true God did visibly answer Eliyahu's prayer. The idolatrous "prophets" were then killed. See 1 Kings ch.18.
Prophet Elijah. After which he challanged the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel.
Elijah mocked the false prophets by suggesting that Baal was sleeping or busy when they called on him to send down fire to light their sacrifice. He challenged them to call louder or try harder to get Baal's attention, knowing that their false god was powerless.
