What did Martin Luther do to try to fix the Church?

Martin Luther did not believe that the church was necessary to be a Catholic, as the ceremonies and rituals were unnecessary. He also didn't believe in paying to get rid of your sins, or for penance, which is what the church believed in.

Well, it could be said that his posting of the 95 Theses (attached below) was an attempt to draw other Catholics, particularly the Bishops into a discussion about what Martin Luther saw as problems with the Church. Unfortunately for Martin Luther, he was the prime example of what was wrong with the Church and his 95 Theses only go to prove that. Most of the 95 Theses are remarkable in that they have always been Catholic teaching. Far from posting 95 Theses to start "the reformation" most of them were pleas to the Holy Father to institute things which did not need to be instituted, they were already Catholic dogma. A few of them, however, were evidence of the sad lack of education of the clergy of that era - well, actually all of them were evidence of that as they showed off Martin Luther's total ignorance of Catholic theology and he supposedly was a doctor of Theology and taught it in the seminary! Shortly thereafter, Luther lost all credibility because instead of trying to discuss and learn where his errors were, he abruptly left his Order and the Church without even requesting permission and went off to start his own Church which would approve of his personal sins. In short, Martin Luther did absolutely nothing to "fix" the Church beyond demonstrating the need for better education of the religious and clergy.
