Mandate of Israel: Yokanan got "John the baptist" name from the gentiles. His name would have looked like this : YOKANAN BEN ??? where ???= his father's name. Sort of like Ethan McDougal: Ethan son of Dougal. According to the Bible, John the Baptist's father, Zechariah, was unable to speak because he doubted the angel Gabriel's announcement that his wife Elizabeth would conceive a child in her old age. As a sign of the truth of the angel's words, Zechariah was struck mute until the birth of his son John. This loss of speech served as a lesson in faith and obedience, as Zechariah's doubt was replaced with belief in the miraculous fulfillment of God's plan.
John the Baptist.
He told Zachariah that he and Elizabeth's prayers had been heard, and that Elizabeth in her old age and after all the years of being barren would have a son. Their son would be John the Baptist, a cousin of Jesus and a forerunner. At first Zachariah didn't believe he could be a father or Elizabeth a mother at this stage of their life, even if they were righteous, so he was struck dumb until John's naming.

Gabriel was the angel who came to Mary, mother of Jesus, and Zechariah, father of John the Baptist, to tell them that their sons were to be born and the significance of each birth. (See Luke 1 11-38.) Gabriel also appeared to Daniel in the Old Testament. Gabriel told Daniel the meaning of the vision relating to the last days of this world. (See Daniel 8 & 9.)
Elizabeth and Zechariah (her husband) both lived upright in the eyes of God. They were both older and Elizabeth was barren. An angel of God foretold of their son's birth. Their son was John the Baptist. Since God sent an angel to tell them of their son's birth and they lived upright in God's eyes. Her only choice was to obey God.
A:Although the gospel accounts tell us that John the Baptist was beheaded in Galilee, with Herod Antipas reluctant to order his death, the first-century Jewish historian Josephus says that he was actually executed in faraway Macherus on the direct orders of Herod, who feared that John could lead an insurrection. John the Baptist would have been buried in an anonymous grave by an unknown labourer under the command of Herod's soldiers.
in the bible it tell about them meeting when Mary and her sister are both pregnant but out of the belly, yes that was the first time John the Baptist saw JESUS...
John the Baptist is mentioned in the John 1:23, which quotes this passage from Isaiah. It is accepted by Christians that this Old Testament passage refers to none other than John the Baptist.Isaiah 40:3"The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God."
I think this has been answered before: "Come forth and repent your sins, get baptised in the river Jordan."
