Matthew 5:6 - Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
When one is hungry or thirsty, they desire food or drink not just because they want it, but because they also needit.
Jesus wants us to see righteousness the same way; to crave it not just because it's desirable, but also because it is needful.
1 Peter 2:2 - as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,
[Quotes from NKJV]
With reference to the Bible quotation alluding to Jesus teaching, the carcase or meat/food draws hungry eagles so those who hunger and thirst for the word of God will go to Jesus who is the embodiment of the Word---blessed are those who thirst and hunger after righteousness for they shall be fed (Matthew 5:6) as a consequence, anywhere the Word of God is preached in truth, God will gather sincere believers no matter how hard the preaching from those who teach the pure word of God . Another answer from our community:Mat 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filledThose who hunger and thirst for righteousness are promised satisfaction. These people have a passion for righteousness in their own lives; they long to see honesty, integrity, and justice in society; they look for practical holiness in the church. These people will be abundantly satisfied in Christ's coming kingdom: they shall be filled, for righteousness will reign and corruption will give way to the highest moral standards.
Thirst in a physical sense, tells us when our body needs water. It's a good reminder and it can save our lives. Thirst is often mentioned in the Bible in a SPIRITUAL sense. At Matthew 5:6 Jesus says that if you 'hunger and thirst for righteousness' you will be filled. At times when you're REALLY physically thirsty, all you can think about is getting a big glass of water, and you won't be satisfied until you've had your fill, because your body NEEDS water to live. In the same way, for those who LONG for truth and righteousness, they won't give up until they find the truth of God that gives them rest. They will search for God until they find him, and he will LET himself be found by those who are TRULY thirsting for God's righteousness. (Acts 17:26 & 27) (1 Chronicles 28:9)(2 Chronicles 15:15) (John 6:35) Jesus said: "I am the bread of life. He that comes to me will not get hungry at all, and he that exercises faith in me will never get thirsty at all. Again, this is speaking spiritually. Once a person has found 'the truth', they no longer feel that desperation; they no longer THIRST spiritually. They are satisfied and content. As Jesus promised....because they thirsted and never gave up, they are 'filled". (John 4:14)(John 7:37)(Revelation 22:17)
