What does the Bible say about where the spirit goes after death?

The Bible reveals quite a different story from the deception the false religions of this, Satan's world, tells. It's rooted in the satanic lie of the "immortality of the soul" that Satan started in the Garden of Eden; the big lie that mankind has swallowed and believes to this day. He says:

"...YE SHALL NOT SURELY DIE..." (Gen.3:4).

And men have not "believed in death" ever since.

The Bible, however, reveals that "the dead don't know anything" [Eccle.9:5]. That dead people are in an unconscious, dreamless, dormant SLEEP! [see John 11:11-14] And, that the Bible points to TWO RESURRECTIONS from the dead; the FIRST of which occurs when Jesus returns... the SECOND a thousand years later - [see Rev.20:4-6].

"...even so in Christ SHALL ALL BE MADE ALIVE. But EVERY MAN IN HIS OWN ORDER: Christ the Firstfruits; AFTERWARD they that are Christ's AT HIS COMING." (I Cor.15:22-23)

The Bible reveals that man can die TWO TIMES! And that it's the SECOND DEATH from which Jesus can save us.

"He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches [are you listening churches?]; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the SECOND DEATH." (Rev.2:11)

The Bible reveals that the FIRST DEATH is APPOINTED TO US!

"And as IT IS APPOINTED unto men ONCE TO DIE, but AFTER THIS THE JUDGMENT: so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for Him shall HE APPEAR THE SECOND TIME without sin unto Salvation." (Heb.9:27-28)

The Bible reveals that the SECOND DEATH occurs at JUDGMENT DAY [the coming Judgment AT THE CONCLUSION -- the END -- OF GOD'S PLAN, being another Truth of God's Word that the false religions of this world don't believe].

"And death and hell [the grave] were cast into the Lake of Fire [death and the grave, being rendered nonexistent through God's Gift of IMMORTALITY... Eternal Life... which man does NOT otherwise possess]. THIS IS THE SECOND DEATH. And whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the Lake of Fire." (Rev.20:14-15)

This world's false religions... not believing in death... think that "dead people are alive somewhere else" [actively thinking, planning, observing folks on earth, most generally in a heaven or hell of some kind or other]. Few people consider the reality of what it would truly be like "looking down on one's loved ones on earth from a "blissful" floating cloud in heaven." They don't consider how truly UN-blissfulheaven would be if a person in heaven were ALIVE observing the pain and suffering of their loved ones on earth in a car accident, involved in a rape, being mugged, using drugs, suffering the pains of diseases, starving, evicted from their homes, etc.. What TORMENT it would truly be!

Mankind should actually be grateful that the dead are sleeping... and not helplessly witnessing their loved one's suffering on earth while they allegedly are "living it up in heaven!" At least, they are at peace.

The Bible reveals that each of us has a SPIRIT WITHIN US [see Zech.12:1]... that RETURNS TO GOD WHEN WE DIE!

"Then shall the dust [our bodies] return to the earth as it was: and THE SPIRIT SHALL RETURN UNTO GOD WHO GAVE IT." (Eccle.12:7)

Our "sleeping, dormant, unconscious spirit," apart from the body.

It should be further noted that the Bible DOES NOT SAY: "...good spirits go to heaven and bad spirits go to hell...". It says that ALL THE SPIRITS of dead people RETURN TO GOD WHO GAVE IT. Which is in keeping with the Truth about the Resurrections at the end of God's plan.

These spirits will be returned to some kind of body at each resurrection to FACE JUDGMENT. The First Resurrection at Christ's return is for HIS SERVANTS or SAINTS, who died with the Holy Spirit in them. They are HIS... and they shall be raised FIRST from the dead, IMMORTAL... no longer able to die, and are not subject to the Second Death. They will be CHANGED [see I Cor.15:51-53; see also Job 14].

"O that thou wouldest HIDE ME IN THE GRAVE, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a SET TIME, and REMEMBER ME! If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time will I wait, TILL MY CHANGE COME. Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands... My transgression [sin] is sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity." (Job 14:13-17)

In the Second Resurrection of "the rest of the dead" at the end of the thousand year rule of Christ and His saints -- the spirits of "the rest of the dead" will be returned to "mortal bodies" that will be subject to the Second Death... depending upon the ruling of each of their final Judgments.

Additional Comments:

The Bible says that if we believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and we believe that we are a sinner, that when we die, we will live in Heaven with God and the other Christians. However, if you do not, you will go to Hell, which is a real place.

Many wish for a detailed description of “What happens after I die?” The Bible does not go into much detail, and the details we do have point us to still more questions. With that said, there are some things we know for sure: In death the dust [body] returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. - Ecclesiastes 12:7 Man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, . . . Hebrews 9:27 There is a separation between the wicked and the righteous NOW - See the parable about the Rich Man and Lazarus - Luke 16:19-31 Hades is the place of the wicked dead now (see also rev 20:13) Paradise is the place of the righteous dead now (see also Luke 23:42-43) In the judgment passage (Rev 20) we see: a. Devil thrown into the lake of fire for eternal torment. b. The dead stand before Christ in judgment. c. Those with their name in the book of life have eternal life d. Those without their name in the book of life are thrown into the lake of fire. Rev 20:10-15 10And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. 11Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
