Catholic AnswerUnlike some television and protestant evangelists, the Church has never taught anything like the health and wealth Gospel. This is a heresy some preachers are pushing saying if you believe in Jesus Christ, you are going to be rewarded here on earth. It is an outgrowth of a puritan work ethic - work hard and God will reward you. The only thing that Our Blessed Lord ever promised us on this earth was a cross and His Love. He said that the only way we would be saved is to take up our cross daily and follow Him. He didn't say anything about praying and getting a new Cadillac. He said that if you love Him, and take up your cross daily and follow Him, you would be rewarded IN THE NEXT LIFE with eternal salvation. If you do not joyfully take up your daily burdens and accept them as crosses you will never enter heaven. Read St. Matthew's Gospel, chapter 7, verses 13-14: "Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in thereat. How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life: and few there are that find it!"No.
