It is not possible to say whether this coincidence of name led to the gradual belief that it was the disciple Thomas who brought Christianity to India, but in any case Christianity had probably already arrived in India by the year 345. Hints of early Christian presence in India are found in writings which date only a century or two later than the apostolic era.
