Beth Peor (Hebrew - Beit Pe'or), two words, was a place of idolatry, since beit means "place" or "house," and pe'or (or baal pe'or) was an idol (Numbers ch.25). The Tosfot commentary (on Talmud, Sotah 14a) quotes an ancient midrash stating that Moses was interred not far from that place (Deuteronomy ch.34), in order to provide a weakening effect against its lure.

Moses was buried in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor. This area of Moab is on the Southeastern side of the 'Salt Sea'. It is written in Deuteronomy, "So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord. And he buried him (Moses) in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day." (Deu. 34:5 & 6)
Deuteronomy 34:5-7 So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD. And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day. And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.
Exodus.Answer:Deuteronomy: "...This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither. So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab (Iraq), according to the Word of the Lord. And He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulcre unto this day. And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated." (Deut.34"4-7)
God buried Moses in a secret place:Deuteronomy 34:5-6 (KJV)5So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD. 6And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.
Moses. Deuteronomy 34:1-6 And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the LORD shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan, And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea, And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar. And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither. So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD. And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.
A:The question implies thatthe Book of Exodus was written in antiquity, perhaps by Moses, then lost and later found. That is not the actual history of the book. Exodus was actually written in stages over several centuries during the middle part of the first millennium BCE. The final additions to the book were added by the anonymous source now known as the Priestly Source, towards the end of the Babylonian Exile or shortly afterwards. The Book of Exodus was copied and distributed widely in this form, which is little different from the book we have today, but was never really lost.
No. Although he was 120 years old when he died, the Bible says: "his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated." (Deuteronomy 24.7) So he was pretty fit for that age. Moses died because his time had come, and God buried him too: "And the LORD said unto him, This [is] the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see [it] with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither. So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD. And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day." (Deuteronomy 24.4-6)
The last word in the Old Testament is "curse". "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful say of the LORD comes. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse."MALACHI 4:5-6the above answer only applies to christian bibles. the last word in the old testament in the Hebrew bible is in CHRONICLES 2 36:23 וְיָעַל is pronounced va yai el - it is usually translated as - "go up" - but what it really means is ARISE!
The Israelites weren't "lost" in the wilderness. They had 40 years of punishment to endure by "wandering and languishing away in the wilderness" for forty years for their fear to enter into the Promised Land forty years earlier and their failure to obey God's voice and command to enter therein. The forty years of wandering was established by the number of "days" it took the Israeli spies to go in and assess the lay of the land (the Promised Land)... twenty days in and twenty days to return. All but two of the spies, Caleb and Joshua, gave a bad report of their findings, and a faithless and fearful dread came over the Israelites, and they balked when it came time to enter in.Caleb and Joshua urged the people to do as God commanded... and to trust that He would make things turn out fine. But the people's fear froze their blood... and their advance.Their faithlessness in God's Word resulted in the establishment of His "year-for-a-day" punishment principle in which they would wander in the wilderness one year for each day the spies were gone - which happened to be forty.During this time, that faithless elder generation died out from among the people (except Caleb and Joshua)... and their children were led into the Promised Land forty years later by these two men whose faith was in the God of Israel.Toward the end of the wandering, God took Moses to a high place across the river from the Promised Land to let him see it before he died:"...This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither. So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in Moab (Iraq), according to the Word of the Lord. And He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulcre unto this day." (Deut.34:4-6)Moses didn't get the Israelites out of the wilderness. Besides his death... there was nothing to "get out of." It was just a matter of forty years of wandering and moving camp every so often. And when the punishment time was expired... they merely crossed the river into the Promised Land. In their movements, they may have camped near the Jordan River any number of times... looked across the river... and saw the object of their punishment - the land of milk and honey where they had feared to go.(Numbers 13 &14)
No. God took him.Another answer:YES:"...by FAITH Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice... By FAITH Enoch was translated that he should not see death: and was not found...By FAITH Noah... By FAITH Abraham... sojourned in the land of promise... dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise... Through FAITH also Sara herself received strength... THESE ALL DIED IN FAITH, not having received the promises..." (Heb.11:4-13).All of the above "faithful of God" DIED the "first death" that's appointed to all men [Heb.9:27].The death that Enoch "should not see" is the SECOND one [should not is the FUTUREtense].Jesus prophesys of it and calls it the "second death" -- not the first [appointed] one. It's the same death that NONE OF GOD'S SAINTS SHALL BE 'HURT BY.'"...he that overcometh shall not be hurt of the SECOND DEATH." (Rev.2:11)"...This is the First Resurrection. Blessed and Holy is he that hath part in the First Resurrection: on such the SECOND DEATH hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years." (Rev.20:5-6)All of the above "faithful of God" [including Enoch]... are presently DEAD... and the scripture plainly says. But they shall be raised at Christ's coming in the First Resurrection, unto "immortality."Those resurrected a thousand years later will face Judgment Day... and the Second Death:"...This is the Second Death. And whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the Lake of Fire." (Rev.20:14-15)God "translated" Enoch. That is... He took his "dead body" [carried it away]and buried him in an undisclosed location [like He did with Moses]."So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the Word of the Lord. And He buried himin a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day." (Deut.34:5-6)Everyone dies, according to the scriptures. And the teachings of men that Enoch didn't die is the result of their unbelief in what the scriptures say:Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sara [and all the prophets - Heb.11:32 - which includes Elijah] -- ALL DIED IN FAITH -- not having received the promises of God.The Bible says so.
According to a traditional commentary, God saw that Enoch would fall into sins if left on this Earth.Another Answer:The account found in Genesis 5 does not say (in any translation) that God took Enoch off the earth or to heaven as many believe. It simply says God took him. Biblical scholars contributing to the New King James Study Bible state the reason God did this was to protect Enoch from angry people who would do physical harm or even kill him because he was righteous and followed God's commands. The above falls in line with other Scripture in the New Testament. For instance, in John 3:13, it is clearly stated that no one but Jesus has ascended into heaven. Paul in Hebrews 11 - the Faith Chapter - lists Enoch among those who died and are buried awaiting their respective resurrection.Lastly, many compare Enoch of the ante-deluvian age with Elijah afterwards as being taken away - off the Earth and to heaven. But the Elijah account of 2 Kings is answered by 2 Chronicles noting the letter Elijah sends to the new King of Judah some 7 years after the sky chariot event. So we can determine with some great degree of probability that both men where simply 'transported' to another place on the Earth for their safety - to live out their physical life and die as all mortals do.AnswerGen 5:24 KJV (24) And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.Albert Barnes' Notes on the Bible:-Gen_5:21-24...[A]fter the birth of Methushelah, "[Enoch] walked with the God." ...His walking with "the God" is a hint that others were walking without this God....Hence, this remarkable servant of God is accounted a prophet, and foretells the coming of the Lord to judgment Jud_1:14-15....Secondly, the second peculiarity of [Enoch] was his teleportation. This is related in the simple language of the times. "And he was not, for God took him;" or, in the version of the Septuagint, "and he was not found, for God translated him." Hence, in the New Testament it is said, Heb_11:5, "By faith Enoch was translated, that he should not see death." ...Heb 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.The Greek word rendered "translated" in Hebrews 11:5 [Strong's G3346] means " carry over, change, remove, translate, turn."Strong'sG3346μετατίθημιmetatithēmimet-at-ith'-ay-meeFrom G3326 and G5087; to transfer, that is, (literally) transport, (by implication) exchange, (reflexively) change sides,.... - carry over, change, remove, translate, turn. The Commentator Martin Henry says on Genesis 5:24:-"But why did God take him so soon? Surely, because the world, which had now grown corrupt, was not worthy of him, or because he was so much above the world, and so weary of it, as to desire a speedy removal out of it, or because his work was done,...Note, God often takes those soonest whom he loves best, and the time they lose on earth is gained in heaven, to their unspeakable advantage".Some authorities suggest Enoch was raptured, but regardless the implication is that it was done for his own safety and protection.
These would be Enoch and ElijahEnoch was 'taken by God' in Genesis 5:21-24:21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. 24 Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.Elijah was taken to God in a 'whirlwind' accompanied by a burning fiery chariot 2 Kings 2: 11-12:11 As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. 12 Elisha saw this and cried out, "My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!" And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them apart.Roman Catholics also believe that Mary mother of Jesus did not die but was 'assumed' into heaven, but there is absolutely no evidence for this doctrine either scripturally or historically.Answer:Everyone dies - (Heb.9:27).The belief that Enoch and Elijah didn't die is a common misconception and misunderstanding taught by modern professing Christianity and... as Jesus would say to the churches: "...ye do err, not knowing the scriptures..." (Matt.22:29).Nowhere does the Bible say the these two "didn't die."1) - Hebrews 11, the "faith" chapter, says that: "...Enoch WAS TRANSLATED THAT HE SHOULD NOT SEE DEATH: and WAS NOT FOUND..." (Heb.11:5).It doesn't say "Enoch didn't die."In fact... if the churches would read the rest of the chapter, they would learn, about all the people listed in the chapter, which includes Enoch... "...THESE ALL DIED IN FAITH, not having received the promises..." (verse 13)!!!As stated above... the "first death" is APPOINTED to all men. But, it's the SECOND DEATH that the saints of God (of whom Enoch is one) SHALL NOT SEE."...He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches (are you listening, churches?); He that overcometh SHALL NOT BE HURT OF THE SECOND DEATH." (Rev.2:11)The "second death" is the death one may suffer on Judgment Day if one might be judged "guilty": "...they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hades (the grave) were cast into the Lake of Fire. THIS IS THE SECOND DEATH. And whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the Lake of Fire." (Rev.20:13-15)The saints of God, however (among whom shall be Enoch), shall have been resurrected and saved one thousand years BEFORE Judgment Day, when Jesus first returns to the earth:"...I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the Word of God... THEY LIVED AND REIGNED WITH CHRIST A THOUSAND YEARS. But the rest of the dead (who never knew the Truth of God) lived not again UNTIL THE THOUSAND YEARS WERE FINISHED. This is the FIRST RESURRECTION. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such THE SECOND DEATH HATH NO POWER, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years." (Rev.20:4-6)The Bible says in Hebrews 11, that "Enoch died" with the rest of God's "faithful." And that it's the SECOND death that he shall not see, along with the rest of God's saints.2) - The Bible also says: "...it came to pass, when the Lord would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind..." (II Kings 2:1)."...and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven." (II Kings 2:11)It's understandable in a world where all the false religions that teach "going to heaven" as their "goal" in life, that they believe Elijah is up in heaven with Jesus and His Father to this very day. But, that's not what the scripture says.It simply says that Elijah was taken up "by a whirlwind" into heaven. But it doesn't say WHICH heaven. The Bible speaks of THREE heavens: 1- within the earth's atmosphere; 2- outer space where the stars are; and 3- the third heaven of God's throne (II Cor.12:2).Jesus Christ, Himself, centuries later, assures us: "...NO MAN HATH ASCENDED UP TO HEAVEN, but He that came down from heaven, even the Son of Man which is in heaven." (John 3:13)He is, of course, speaking about the THIRD HEAVEN of His Father's throne from whence He came. So, ELIJAH AIN'T THERE!Surely, Jesus would know better than any man who is in heaven and who isn't... wouldn't He? Unless, of course, He's a liar. So, Elijah was taken up into either the first or second heaven - within the earth's breathable atmosphere... or the unbreathable vacuum of outer space! Pick one.Every day, people are "taken up into heaven" all around the world in airplanes powered by manmade whirlwinds... and they come back down in some other location.Whirlwinds function within the earth's atmosphere where there are clouds and wind currents... not in outer space. It's only "logical," therefore, that Elijah was taken up into heaven... and set back down someplace else... where he died the death appointed to us all at some later date. Elijah was certainly one of God's "prophets" mentioned in Hebrews 11 (verse 32) who died with the rest of God's "faithful."Even Jesus died the appointed death at the hands of murderous men. But, He is the only one, so far, to be raised immortal from that death. The rest of us await our turn. And those who are Christ's wait in their graves for Jesus' return... like Enoch and Elijah.Neither of them were found... like Moses... whom the Lord buried:"...So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab (Iraq), according to the Word of the Lord. And He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day." (Deut.34:5-6)There is even "indication" that Enoch was murdered by "Lamech," the great-great-great grandson of Cain (Gen.4:17-18)... who also killed his great-great-great grandfather Cain. But, that's another story.
