Adam and Eve committed the first human sin, in the garden of Eden.

It's also discussed in Romans 5:12-17 in The Bible:

"Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man {this is talking about Adam}, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned...For if the many died by the trespass of the one man {Adam}, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! ...For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ."

Another Answer:

According to Jesus Christ, the story men teach about Adam and Eve isn't true, and they are not the original sinners. Satan the Devil is.

"...You belong to your father, the Devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the Truth, for there is no Truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and THE FATHER OF LIES." (John 8:44 NIV)

Jesus says the Bible is the Word of God - the TRUTH. He says that Satan couldn't hold to God's Word from the beginning... that there was no room for it in his heart, just like those to whom He was speaking.

"...Why do you not understand My speech? Even because ye cannot hear My Word... And because I tell you the Truth, ye believe Me not... He that is of God heareth God's Words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God." (John 8:43-47)

Another view:

Men teach "the fall of man" in the Garden of Eden, even though the Bible says nothing about "man falling." Satan, the original sinner... merely introduced them to the sin that he fathered in the beginning before they were created. The sin that caused the earth to be destroyed and become "without form and void" [Gen.1:1-2].

Adam and Eve were created with adult bodies and the blank minds of children. While God instructed and "commanded" them [Gen.2:16] regarding His laws and that they were to obey them... they were totally inexperienced in life, had everything to learn and a lifetime of character to develop. They were innocent as infants and, as virtual children, were subject to any voice of authority. They stood on no pedestal, nor held a lofty office from which to fall. They were adult children who were told to "be fruitful and multiply"... and had the whole world to play in.

They were spiritually "neutral." Neither good nor bad. They were "innocent."

Yet, like the Jews to whom Jesus spoke... they had minds of their own. And when the "father of lies" eventually spoke to Eve with authority... they obeyed him and carried out his desires. And the father of sin conceived his child within their minds and hearts... and sin was born in them.

The Bible says: Sin is the transgression of the law: "...I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet." (Rom.7:7)

The original sin wasn't in the Garden of Eden. It was conceived in the heart of Lucifer in the beginning before man's creation. It was the rejection by him of God's Truth... His laws and rules and authority. (Ezek.28:15-17).(Luke 10:18) (Isa.14:13).

And it was Satan who sinned first... that deceived man believes was laid upon him by God.

Man's sins are a necessary evil that he has to experience for character development. He must experience it that he will know the depths of its vile nature.

God has been using Satan's original sin and sin's ways to teach His children the hard lessons and reality of what disobedience to His laws reaps. No father or any parent can merely hand their children righteous character. Life must be experienced... mistakes must be made and lessons must be learned. It's in the dealing with it that character [good or bad] is instilled.

The Bible basis for sin is that it's a necessary evil for the character development of God's Righteous Children. Those who overcome it in Christ, that is.

(Rev.2:11) (Rev.2:26-27) (Rev.3:5) (Rev.3:12) (Rev.3:21)

The Bible's basis for sin is that man must learn to reject it and overcome it by the Truth and Power of God.

Why is there an original sin when there was only the first sin?

Original sin as referred to in the Bible, and in sermons, is the disobedience of Adam to God when He told him not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. This was the first sin that man committed, which plunged all of mankind into a constant state of sin, until God sent His only Son, Jeshua (Jesus in English) to redeem all of mankind back from all sin. So the first sin and the original sin are the same.
