Every year Jehovah's Witnesses participate in various "assemblies". There are usually two one-day assemblies each year that are smaller in nature, usually only a limited number of congregations based on their geographical location. Typically these circuit assemblies include around 20-26 congregations in the United States. (Circuit sizes differ from country to country and are based on the number of Jehovah's Witnesses in a defined area).
District assemblies are now called Regional assemblies. These three day assemblies (Friday-Sunday) are attended by larger groups of witnesses, generally several circuits. Depending on where they are held, many families do travel to attend the Regional Assemblies and it turns into a very nice spiritual weekend for them.
All assemblies of Jehovah's Witnesses are free and open to the public.
As in Bible times, Jehovah's Witnesses gather for these assemblies for spiritual instruction and fellowship.
Each day has a separate morning and afternoon session. There are different discourses based on The Bible and sometimes experiences are shared. There can be group discussions, bible story re-enactments, or videos shown. There is always a talk for those who are getting baptized.
The programs differ from one assembly to the next, but they are designed to give spiritual encouragement to ones who are sincere about living by Bible standards in today's society.
If you go to their website, and go to the "Publications" tab, you can see a sample of the program for upcoming assemblies.
