The Orthodox Church, also officially called the Orthodox Catholic Church and commonly referred to as the Eastern Orthodox Church, is the dominant Christian denomination in the majority of Slavic countries(including Russia), Romania, Moldava, Greece, Cyprus, and Georgia. It considers itself to be the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church established by Jesus Christ and his Apostles almost 2,000 years ago. Orthodoxy is the second largest Christian communion in the world, with an estimated 300 million adherents.

The Orthodox Church is composed of several self-governing ecclesial bodies, each geographically and nationally distinct but theologically unified.

Is this a correct response to a question The church is?

If the question refers to the location of, or description of, a church, or its denomination, then the response, 'The church is ... ' is correct. If the questions is about a church as a specific entity, the word 'church' should be capitalized. For example:'Where is the church?': 'The church is two blocks away.''Where is the Catholic church?': 'The Catholic church is in the next street.''What is the church built of?': 'The church is built of stone.''How old is the Christian Church?': 'The Church is over two thousand years old.'A devout believer in a particular religion, asked 'Why does your Church exist?' might respons simply, 'The Church is.'
