I an not sure Martin Luther caused the entire split but the Catholic denomination was not formed until about 325 AD. Martin Luther was the first person to realize after so many years that we are saved by Grace not by works or anything a man can do. The people that first believed his reformation message were called Lutherans to the best of my knowledge.

Whoever wrote that is obviously does not know anything about his own faith. All Catholics are Christian, but not all Christians are Catholic. Like all dogs are mammals, but not all mammals are dogs. Catholics DO NOT believe Mary is God. She is the mother of Jesus, who was both God and Man. One big difference is that Catholics follow the Pope, while others don't. This answer (the first one) is an example of how the different sects fight each other more than loving God.Awesome second answer! I put this down as a minor contributor and I hope others recommend you also! As I grow older and find out more about different sects of the Christian faith, I realize how similar they all are. The Pope and confessing sins to a priest are the only things I have seen different between the sects.

There are many differences between a Protestant Christian and a Roman Catholic Christian, thay believe basicly the same thing, but in different ways. The main difference, is that Catholics worship the saints, specially Mary, while Protestants dont. Catholics do this because Mary was Jesus' earthly mother, but Protestans argue this by saying that The Bible says (and it is true) that you must only worship God, which is made up by three persons: The Father, The Son (Jesus), and The Holy Spirit.
