The last of the prophets to die was John the Baptist, and there have been no prophets since. There is now no need for human prophets because they were intermediaries between God and His people until the first Pentecost after Jesus Christ was crucified for our sins. This is when God's Holy Spirit first spoke directly to every Christian without the need of a human being to translate or interpret it. There is no such thing as a "contemporary prophet" and there are no modern-day prophets: there are people who call themselves prophets but they are deceiving themselves and others.

Rev 22:18-20 KJV For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: (v.19) And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. (v.20) He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

2Ti 3:6 NET For some of these insinuate themselves into households and captivate weak women who are overwhelmed with sins and led along by various passions.

2Ti 3:13 NET But evil people and charlatans will go from bad to worse, deceiving others and being deceived themselves.

2Ti 3:13 KJV But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

The completed Bible contains all the revealed truth God wants mankind to know and there is no need for prophets as it is a different Dispensation. Any self-styled prophet is a deceived charlatan and fraud and usually in it for the money:some are very wealthy indeed. They give Christianity a bad name and bring it into disrepute. Just follow the money trail.
Accordingly, there are no " differences and similarities between contemporary prophets and Old Testament prophets" because there are no modern prophets.
