A:

First Peter was written as if a general epistle to churches throughout what is now Asia Minor by the apostle Peter, although it is regarded as having only been written in his name in the second century.

Referring to The Temptations of verse 6, Verse 7 says that these are to try the faith of the readers, but faith is more precious than gold.

The author was writing long after the time of Jesus, and knew that his readers had never met Jesus, although the real Peter might not have been so sure. Verse 8 continued the theme of faith in Jesus, saying that although you have never seen Jesus, you love him. Then verse 9 says that the reward for faith is salvation.
