The role of the church should be that of "the Faithful wife and mother who is bearing God's Children."
"Married women, submit to your own husbands as if to the LORD; because a husband is the Head of his wife as Christ also is the Head of the Church, being indeed the Savior of this His Body. And just as the Church submits to Christ, so also married women should be entirely submissive to their husbands." (Eph.5:22-24 WEY Weymouth's New Testament)
[that is, of course, as the analogy goes, if the husband is "entirely submissive to Christ" -- Selfless and Loving -- in his Divinely-inspired role in the marriage structure as God created it.]
The Church of God should be learning, obeying, and teaching the Laws of God, written in His Word, The Bible [the Bread of Eternal Life] to God's Children, through the channeling "umbilical cord" of the Holy Spirit, for their spiritual nourishment, growth, and character-development; feeding their hearts and minds with God's Truth -- so that when the "Deliverer" comes for them, they'll be fully developed, nourished, and prepared for the jobs, offices and positions God has slated for them in co-ruling His Kingdom on earth with His Firstborn Son... the KING of that Kingdom, Jesus Christ.
"For His Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that WE ARE GOD'S CHILDREN. And since we are His Children, we will share His Treasures - for everything God gives to His Son, Christ, IS OURS, TOO. But if we are to share His Glory, we must also share His suffering." (Rom.8:16-17 NLT New Living Translation)
The role of God's Church is that of an Obedient, Faithful pregnant woman, bearing God's Children. Collectively, the Church is God's wife; suffering the spiritual and physical struggles and pains of childbirth [life's experiences; good and evil].
Individually, each person within the Church is one of God's precious unborn babies; each one struggling in their own phase of "spiritual" embryonic and/or fetal development -- all awaiting the return of the LORD, to fulfill His Promise to "Deliver" them, and to reward them, according to their works with roles of co-leadership in His coming Kingdom -- or with punishment for their faithless works, as the case may be [see Matt.25:21-30].
All of this "firstborn generation" of God's Children; God's Family Leaders whom He is calling, now, during this present time dispensation, have the potential to inherit God's Kingdom Roles that will at long last, when Christ returns, begin to teach the "surviving" nations on the earth [see Matt.24:21-22] the Righteous ways of God: the ways of Loving and Caring and Respecting one another. Teaching the nations not to be jealous, to despise, hate, resent, debase, ridicule, murder, steal, lie, etc., that this world has been teaching God's Children since the Garden of Eden.
The role of God's Church should be that of a Loving, Tender, Nurturing pregnant mother, wanting only the best for the spiritually healthy nourishment and development of her, as yet, unborn Children of her Perfect, Loving, Caring, Giving, Selfless Husband.
It's a deeply spiritual role from which the marriages of man can take positive, edifying lessons... if only the spirits of men weren't so blinded and deceived by this world's god.
