Moshe Rabbein (Moses) escaped execution in a miraculous story described in midrash Devarim Rabba, in which his neck turned to marble and caused the ax to bounce off and kill the executioner. He was then further aided by an angel who impersonated him and ran in the opposite direction, allowing him to escape.

He also escaped slavery not only by being born into the tribe of Levi, which was never enslaved, but also by being adopted by Pharaoh's daughter Basya, who eventually converted to Judaism herself.
