What kind of wood was Jesus crucified on?

It doesnt matter what kind of wood Jesus was crucified on, all that matters is since He died on the cross for all mankind we all can have eternal life.

Nobody really knows of course ... but a good guess might have been olive wood or acacia wood ... based on the only material evidence of a crucifixion at about the time and place as Jesus was crucified ... this copy/pasted from Wiki

Despite the fact that the ancient Jewish historian Josephus, as well as other sources, refers to the crucifixion of thousands of people by the Romans, there is only a single archaeological discovery of a crucified body dating back to the Roman Empire around the time of Jesus. This was discovered in Jerusalem in 1968. It is not necessarily surprising that there is only one such discovery, because a crucified body was usually left to decay on the cross and therefore would not be preserved. The only reason these archaeological remains were preserved was because family members gave this particular individual a customary burial.

The remains were found accidentally in an ossuary with the crucified man's name on it, 'Yehohanan, the son of Hagakol'.[44][45]Nicu Haas, an anthropologist at the Hebrew University Medical School in Jerusalem, examined the ossuary and discovered that it contained a heel bone with a nail driven through its side, indicating that the man had been crucified. The position of the nail relative to the bone indicates that the feet had been nailed to the cross from their side, not from their front; various opinions have been proposed as to whether they were both nailed together to the front of the cross or one on the left side, one on the right side. The point of the nail had olive woodfragments on it indicating that he was crucified on a cross made of olive wood or on an olive tree. Since olive trees are not very tall, this would suggest that the condemned was crucified at eye level.

Additionally, a piece of acacia wood was located between the bones and the head of the nail, presumably to keep the condemned from freeing his foot by sliding it over the nail. His legs were found broken, possibly to hasten his death as described in John 19:31-35. It is thought that because in Roman times iron was rare, the nails were removed from the dead body to conserve costs. According to Haas, this fact could help to explain why only one nail has been found, as the tip of the nail in question was bent in such a way that it could not be removed.

Many believe it to have been Hyssop or Cedar, but it is my thinking that if were pertinent enough to contemplate, or held relevance to our Salvation, God would certainly have revealed it to us in the Scriptures. I believe it is more important to concentrate on our Salvation by the sacrifice of Christ and what it means to those that believe on His name, not to trivialize over what type of wood was used to crucify the Messiah

The whole idea of crucifying was maximum pain and humiliation.
The climate at the time was not one that produced large trees. The ones found would be like a local pine. Anything larger would have been very expensive and used for other things and this wood was probably imported.
There were several shapes that could have been used; T, X or Y. And any one of these were used at various times.
Apparently the most ancient image of a Roman crucifixion is a graffito found in a taberna (hostel for wayfarers) in Puteoli, dating to the time of Trajan or Hadrian (late 1st century to early 2nd century CE).

We are not sure just what shape was used but it was most likely a T. The upright of the T was already in place and the cross beam was carried as a further form of punishment. It could not have been carried very far and some one else would have been 'asked' to finish the trip.
In the 1930s, experiments conducted with cadavers led researcher Pierre Barbet to conclude that nails driven through the palms of the hands could not have supported the weight of the arms and upper body and that the nails were more likely driven through the wrists, which would have lent more support.

Putting nails through the palms would have resulted in maximum nerve damage and pain but they would have pulled out very rapidly.

The Bible does not specify the type of wood used. There is a legend that it was the Dogwood tree, but some believe that is unlikely.
