What lie did the serpent tell eve?

The Lie that the serpent gave to Eve was that if she ate from the tree of knowledge of good and bad then she would be like God knowing all things and that she would not die.

God had told both Adam and Eve that if they ate from the tree of Knowledeg of good and bad then they would positively die. And 930 years later Adam died. Eve also dies so what the Serpent said was a lie.

The question is : What would have happened if they did not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and bad?

Well logically they would not have died-thats right -never!

Because God said they would only die IF they ate from the tree of knowledge of good and bad.

And the earth would have remained a paradise and all the people born of Adam and Eve and their descendants would also have never died.

And all the problems in the world we see today never would have happened.

So why did they choose to disobey God their creator?- because they saw something they could not have but disobeyed God any way and paid the ultimate price for themselves as well as humanity.

Has anything changed today?

The world is in a terrible state because of this fatal act that these first two humans made.

It depends on how you read the story as to whether it was a lie or not, but the phrase is "You surely will not die [from eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge]". It is only from traditions that Adam and Eve are held to be immortal before the fall, so if it were the case that Adam and Eve were already mortal, which would make sense since they need to eat, it would seem that the snake was addressing a question of immediacy, i.e. you will not surely die within a few days of consuming the fruit. If you do hold that Eve was immortal, then it was still not the fruit that made Eve mortal, rather it was God's anger and punishment that he visited on Eve that made her mortal, so he still speaks the truth. If the snake knew that God would punish Eve exactly like He did, only then would he be lying, but this would require a demon to know the mind of God.
