Henry VIII did not change the church in England. He wanted a divorce from his wife, Catherine so he could marry Anne Bolynne. The only change that was made by the Church of England, was that they would not recognize the Pope as the spiritual leader of the church any longer. What had been Roman Catholic Churches in England, soon became Anglican churches. The Mass was said in English and the sacraments and the administration of the new church continued as before. Most of the clergy including bishops, renounced their allegiance to the Pope and sided with Henry VIII.
