The Latvian community mostly (and also historicaly) are Protestant (Lutheran) due to German historical influence, except the southeastern part close which is predominantly Roman Catholic due to the Lithuanian-Polish historical influence. About one third of the population of Latvia consists of Russian-speaking minorities (Russians, Ukrainians, Belorussians and others) who are predominantly Eastern (Russian) Orthodox.

Apart from Christian denominations there is also a historical Jewish community, followers of Judaism. There rest of the religious communities are very small (there are no mosques or Buddhist temples in Latvia).
