The Puritans and the Pilgrims
A cult is a group that shares a common religious practice.
The Puritans, a religious group seeking to purify the Church of England, hoped to establish a Christian colony in America. They sought a place where they could practice their faith freely and create a society based on their religious beliefs. In 1620, they founded Plymouth Colony, and later, the Massachusetts Bay Colony became a significant center for Puritanism. Their vision was to create a "city upon a hill" that exemplified their religious ideals.
The Pilgrims who sailed on the Mayflower in 1620 were sent by a group of English Separatists seeking religious freedom. They were supported by a London-based merchant group, known as the Virginia Company, which aimed to establish a colony in North America. The journey was motivated by the desire to escape religious persecution in England and to create a community where they could practice their faith freely.
Religious minority group
Religious migration occurs for various reasons, such as seeking better economic opportunities, escaping religious persecution or discrimination, or simply wanting to practice one's faith more freely in a different location. It can also occur due to family ties, educational opportunities, or a desire for a different cultural experience.
The Mormons, followers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, traveled west to Utah in the mid-19th century to escape religious persecution and establish a new homeland. Led by Brigham Young, they sought a place where they could freely practice their beliefs and build a close-knit community.
The religious group that many pilgrims belonged to were known as the Separatists, also referred to as the Pilgrims. They were dissenters from the Church of England and believed in separating from the established church to practice their own form of religious worship.
Quakers (The Religious Society of Friends) has historically practiced Christianity, as they were founded on them. But they remain a very tolerant group and are open to any faith.
The pilgrims were a group of people in England and Europe that were persecuted for their religious beliefs. Knowing that others had found America, they set sail in their tiny ships, trusting God to get them here safely. Here, they were able to practice their religion freely. The right to do this still exists, today, thanks to the US Constitution.
