Being called a Hindu can mean a wide range of characteristic behaviors. Hindus who live even next to each other may pray to different Gods. For Hindus, it is the love for his or her chosen form of God that is important. Intense love for any particular God form will lead one to the Almighty God, Narayana, or Allah; which translates to eventually lighting up the God who has always been within each of us in the first place.

The whole idea of performing spiritual activities like prayers, meditation, rituals in temples and performing service to fellow beings etc. are analogous to the various activities that a boy or a girl delves in to show their love for each other like dating, presenting each other flowers, candies etc. As they get married, their love is joined as one and eventually they have children, thereby further expanding their love. As their children get married their family ties grows eventually engulfing all of humanity in their love. Soon after, they will engulf the universe in their love.

Praying directly to the Almighty God, who is indescribable and formless is difficult, because being human we need a form to love; just as a boy will find it hard to love a girlfriend without a picture of her. Husband, wife, and children, within one family may each chose a different God to love. But there are two characteristics common to all Hindus; one is the tolerance by leaders of families to allow each member to pray to his or her chosen God, as well as the knowledge or acknowledgement of the Ramayana.
