Hindus believe in thousands of gods. They believe that all of the gods are just manifestations of one supreme spirit: Brahman. Brahman is not a god, but more of a spirit inside everything. The three main gods in Hinduism are Brahma (not to be confused with Brahman), Vishnu, and Shiva. Brahma is the creator god, the creator of the Earth, Vishnu is the protector god, and Shiva is the destroyer god (Shiva is not 'bad', but also creates life though destruction. Shiva is also the god of Earth's fertility). The Hindus believe that the universal problem is samsara, the cycle of reincarnation. The ultimate destination in Hinduism (comparable with Heaven) is moksha. Moksha is when one's soul is pure and free of all worldly connections;thus, one is reunited with Brahman. To get there one must move through different levels by following Hinuism teachings and being a good person. One might start as an untouchable in a lifetime and through good deeds, move up to an unskilled worker in the next reincarnation. Through many lives, one will reach the priest level, and then, to Moksha. That is the general Hindi belief. There are also many other smaller beliefs among all Hindus. One is the stages of one's life. One starts in the pleasure stage (associated with selfishness). The next stage is the success/fame stage. Then, there is the "super-ego" stage. This stage is where one helps humanity instead of one's self. In Hinduism, like other religions, there are many stories and tales about the gods.
