Muhammad was a prophet of Allah and as such it is not fit to keep his nickname. Keeping nickname of holy persons in Islam is prohibited. However Muhammad did have many titles ( 99 of them ) No he was given other titles for his outstanding character like As siddiq... which means the truthfull one... and no he did not have 99 names... God has 99 names that we can call him by for example Ar Rahman is a name of Allah which means the mercyful one.
