Allegedly, he drove or banned all snakes from Ireland.

Wolf5370: Allegedly is the correct term (maybe mythically is better though). Of course Ireland never had snakes - they evolved well after Ireland migrated from mian land Europe. St Patrick was actually a Welsh bot (16) that was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken to Ireland (twice). While he was there he (allegedly) walked into a burning shack to rescue an old woman without harm to himself - this was one of the two miracles that warrant sainthood. There are many other stories, most attributed (like the snakes) well after his death - like speaking to ancient Irish warriors, his staff turning into a tree, and causing the first shamrock to grow etc. Really he was given Sainthoiod because he brought Christianity back from Irelanbd to the Wales which was still pagan at the time.
