When you die do you go immediately to heaven or do you have to wait until the second coming of jesus before you go to heaven?

Since we never have had anyone come back and tell us, no one is absolutely sure what happens, or if it happens. You have to go on faith and your beliefs as to the afterlife.

MY FEELINGS...

I believe that we do not go to heaven first time...I believe that we have to keep coming back again and again until the soul has had enough "soul grow" which means a certain amount of grieveing from so many life times and also "good deeds" action has to be endured then we start the guardian angel process...it's a process of growth and I think that bad people keep coming back until they change their ways

Jesus put it very simply to the thief next to him on the cross 'today you will be with me in paradise.' It is also absolutely certain from a Biblical viewpoint that there are not endless opportunities to try again and get it right. 'And as it is appointed unto man once to die and after this the judgment.' Hebrews 9 v 27.

The bible say's: I say to you today, you will be with me in paradise.

I Thessolonians 4 puts it very clearly that the dead in christ will rise when Jesus return's to earth (The Second Coming).

So No you will not go striaght to heaven when you die - you will be in a deep deep sleep until Jesus comes back to Earth.

Re the first part of you question "When you die" scripture says "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. (John Ch 11) In this passage Jesus distinguishes between those had already died/"fallen asleep" before His resurrection (who would live after His resurrection) and the living after His resurrection who would never die.

Re the second part of your question "do you go immediately to Heaven" Scripture says "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born anew.' The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know whence it comes or whither it goes; so it is with every one who is born of the Spirit." (John Ch 3) Scripture does not say we "go" to heaven. Rather it says that we enter the Kingdom of heaven by being born of water and the spirit or in certain other ways. The Kingdom of Heaven is where Jesus Christ is King. This includes both heaven and earth "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." (Matthew Ch 28)

Re the third part of your question on "the second coming of Jesus" Scripture says "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net which was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind; when it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into vessels but threw away the bad. So it will be at the close of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous, and throw them into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth. ....... Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear."

(Matthew Ch 13) Here again Scriture does not refer to heaven but to the Kingdom of heaven and what happens to it at the "close of the age"

In summary then we do not die. Through baptism we enter the Kingdom of Heaven which includes heaven and earth (there are other ways to enter) where we remain until the Last Day when the Kingdom of Heaven will be delivered to God the Father and the righteous will then shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Scripture also says that in Heaven we are like angels who according Scripture can assume human form when necessary.

We were taught when we were younger that God is, was and always will be...that he had no beginning and no end. He created everything -- including the earth and our world.

Because of this, God created time; therefore he is not within time, but he is outside of time. Since he created time, he can't be subject to the laws of time or time would be more powerful than him. The Bible says that one second to God is like a thousand years to us. It's the Bible's way of saying there is no time where God is.

Because there is no time where God is, the past, present and future in our world happens simultaneously. When you die and appear before God, you are no longer existing within time; the construct of time no longer applies. Therefore, when the world ends (when Jesus comes again), it will seem simultaneous to when you appeared before Jesus for judgment.

It will seem immediate to you since you are not existing within the laws of time when it occurs.

I see no support in scripture for "purgatory" nor do I see support for the angel Michael guarding the "gate."

I do not know if we go immediately into Christ's presence or if we "sleep" until such a time as He calls us to be rejoined with our bodies at the first resurrection to be forever with Him. Scripture uses the term "sleep" in a number of places. Paul says "we will not all sleep" referring to Christians who have died. Some believe this is a reference to death alone, and others believe it to be "soul sleep" where the believer's spirit sleeps, as in earthly anesthesia, with no feeling of time passing, and then when Christ calls, is rejoined with the body at the resurrection.

Either way, I believe that the believer that dies feels as if they go immediately into Christ's presence. Either they go there in spirit alone, awaiting the resurrection, or they unknowingly "sleep" until He calls. Paul said "it is better to be with Christ" in reference to a choice of remaining here or going to be with the Lord. Because of this, I like to believe that we go immediately into Christ's presence at death.

If there is a heaven, we actually know nothing about it or what happens there. Although there is no evidence that heaven exists, for many it is comforting to believe that we can live forever and go to a more pleasant place, called heaven, when we die.
Although heaven is probably just wishful thinking, those willing to believe will find plenty of biblical evidence that we go to heaven when we die. Some who do believe in heaven believe that we go to heaven as soon as we die, while others believe we remain in the grave until Judgement Day.
