He was taken down from the tree and carried to the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea that was conveniently nearby, where Joseph, himself, and Nicodemus laid Him temporarily, as the account goes, until the Passover Sabbath was past. After which they intended to bury Him in a more permanent sepulchre.

Catholics and many Christian denominations, including the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, believe that Jesus went to teach those who had not had the opportunity of hearing His gospel while he was on the earth. This place is called Paradise (Luke 23:43) and is evidently a different place than where God the Father dwells, as when Jesus was resurrected he told Mary Magdalene that he had "not yet ascended to [his] Father." (John 20:17).

In Mormonism, the righteous dead go to Paradise and the wicked to Prison until the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. At this time all are resurrected and face their Final Judgement, where they may go to one of the Kingdoms of God or be cast out to dwell with Satan. Those in Paradise were taught by Jesus Christ in the days between His crucifixion and resurrection.
