Hebrews and Israelites are the same people. Today they are called "Jews".

The Jewish people are descendants of Abraham, whose Semitic ancestors lived in the Fertile Crescent and who lived most of his life in the Middle Eastern country of Israel (Canaan) 3800 years ago. Abraham is called a Hebrew (Genesis ch.14) because "Hebrews" (Ivrim) means descendants of Eber (Ever). They were Western Semites and lived in northern Mesopotamia.
In 1934-39, excavations were conducted at ancient Mari on the Euphrates River. They found that ancient towns were named after the ancestors of Abraham:
The city of Nahor was found near the city of Harran which exists to this day. Equally clear signs of early Hebrew residence appear in the names of other towns nearby: Serug (Assyrian Sarugi), Terah (Til Turakhi, "Mound of Terah"), and Peleg (Paliga, on the Euphrates near the mouth of the Habur). All these names are found in Genesis ch.11. In 2000, the analysis of a report by Nicholas Wade "provided genetic witness that Jewish communities have, to a remarkable extent, retained their biological identity separate from their host populations, showing relatively little intermarriage or conversion into Judaism over the centuries. The results accord with Jewish history and tradition and refute theories which would allege that Jewish communities consist mostly of converts."

The majority of Jews are descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Sephardic , Ashkenazi , Mizrahi , and Ethiopian Jews can all trace their roots back to the ancient Israelites, by their customs, language, and DNA.

1) We have an unbroken tradition of 3800 years with thousands of names and dates, which among other things identifies us (the Jews) as the descendants of the ancient Israelites. American and Russian Jews, for example, have the names and bloodlines of our families' Ashkenaz Jewish ancestors for over eleven centuries. Note also that converted groups do not contain any Kohens or Levites, whereas the Ashkenazim and Sephardim all have good percentages of them.

2) Non-Jewish tradition and scholarship: here too, the great majority (ancient historians and recent scholarship) verify that the Jewish people are who they say they are.

3) Science: recently, worldwide DNA analyses have confirmed that today's Jews are related to each other and originated in the Middle East.

They were spit out of the land, placed into slavery, and have been afflicted continuously because of the transgressions and not keeping the covenant He made with them of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Physically, they are the 12 Tribes of Israel where 10 are supposedly still lost. The modern nation of Israel is composed of the Tribe of Judah, and many of Benjamin - some of Levi and Simeon as well. It was God's intent to have these model people show the rest of mankind the Way. They never did. In Ezekiel 37 & 38, it prophecizes physical Israel all returning to their homeland.

Spiritually, it is all people who repent and are baptized as Acts 2:38 states. Yet in this world, spiritual Israelites will not be a large group but rather are referred to as the 'Little Flock.' They too are to be a model for all peoples.

But the great 'harvest' of mankind will begin in the Millennium with Jesus and the firstfruits governing the world. Next, the Great White Throne Judgement process will afford 10s of billions their first chance of repenting, being baptized and following Christ. They will also be changed then into spiritual Israel - sons and daughters of the God Family.

"Jews" refers to the people from the end of First Temple times, up to this day, because after the Assyrian conquest the Israelites who remained in the land were (and are) mostly from the Israelite tribe of Judah, and the land was then called Judea. But all the above terms are occasionally interchanged.
