Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad was commissioned by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, the fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty. Construction began in 1614 and was completed in 1694 during the reign of his successor, Sultan Muhammad Shah. The mosque is named after the holy city of Mecca, as it is believed that the bricks used in its construction were brought from there.
