Veda Samaj was a social reform in southern India that was extremely important. It was established in Madras in 1864 with the efforts of Sridharalu Naidu and Keshab Chandra Sen. Its philosophies were similar to those of Brahmo Samaj in their theistic principals. They believed in discarding all sectarian views, gradually abandoning caste distinction, tolerating views of strangers, and never offending anyone's feelings. They were against polygamy and child marriage, and supported widow remarriage.

The phrase "go back to the Veda" is often associated with various Hindu reform movements and thinkers, such as Swami Dayananda Saraswati, the founder of the Arya Samaj, who advocated for a return to the original texts of Hinduism. It emphasizes a return to the teachings and principles found in the Vedas, which are ancient sacred texts of Hindu philosophy and spirituality. The call to "go back to the Veda" reflects a desire for a purer, more authentic practice of Hinduism, free from later interpolations and rituals.
