Samson was blinded in tne Old Testament. Judges 16 verse 21 tells of the Philistines taking out his eyes.
21But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.
It was also common for captives in war to have their eyes put out. The Assyrians and Babylonians especially practised this.
