Why are churches on corner lots?

A business can succeed or fail based on its location--and the same is true for churches. Putting a church on a corner increases its visibility and is thus a strategic marketing move. Another consideration is accessability. No one wants to walk a mile to get to church; a corner lot means people can access the church from multiple points with less congestion and there is double the reasonable street parking. Finally, there may be a cost advantage due to building ordinances that prohibit building too close to a road. One could argue that since much of the land on the corner is unsuitable for building, the land should cost less. It is usable for parking, recreation, and other such uses, however, and thus it makes sense for a church that is purchasing a lot on which the building will sit to buy the adjacent, corner lot to go along with it.
