Some believe it is because Goliath had three brothers and a father still living. They believe David knew he would probably have to kill the whole family. [Back in those times the laws of an eye for an eye etc... were used and it would have been within the right of the family [Goliath's] to obtain vengeance against David.]
But, could it really be that David was so confident and faithful to God that he picked up a stone for each remaining giant just in case they wanted revenge? Why not? However, the question comes to mind, "Do we have any indications that David, the keeper of sheep, knew anything about Goliath beyond his defiance of the Lord and the armies of Israel?"
Therefore, there are also some who believe David picked up five stones because the number five in Scripture is the number of grace.
David is the type of Christ and by His grace He will slay all the Goliaths in our lives IF we trust Him by faith.
No doubt as David also looked after the sheep and cattle he would have kept the stones to use against any animals from attacking the animals. There was also the possibility that the enemy would still attack after the death of the giant.
1 Samuel 17 says that David picked "five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag", but doesn't specifically state why 5 exactly. Some commentaries (such as David Guzik) speculate that David picked 5 stones because there were 5 giants, Goliath and his 4 brothers (2 Samuel 21).
David collected five smooth pebbles.
not sure might have made stone soup with them
I Samuel 17:40 tells us that David chose 5 smooth stones, but there is no mention of why the number 5? David was like most persons in that no one would take just one bullet for a pistol against a giant or an enemy soldier.
Get physical. Use stones, coins, wooden blocks. 5 rows, 3 stones in each row, equals 15 stones. 5 x 3 = 15. And so on.
1 Samuel 17:40. This is in reference to stones selected by David before his confrontation with Goliath.
5 kg = 0.79 stones
31.8 KG is 5 stones.
To convert kilograms to stones, you can use the conversion factor where 1 stone is approximately 6.35 kilograms. Therefore, to convert 33.6 kg to stones, you divide 33.6 by 6.35, which is about 5.29 stones. Thus, 33.6 kg is roughly 5 stones and 4 pounds.
Yes, 5 stones is less than 50 kg. One stone is approximately 6.35 kg, so 5 stones is about 31.75 kg. Therefore, 5 stones is significantly less than 50 kg.
Well for one thing he was not afraid of Goliath. David had already killed a bear and a lion. He must have been a pretty good shot with that sling shot. Another thing, no one else wanted to do it.
