Why did Muhammad migrate?

The Hijra (or Immigration), and its timing and destination, was per God command that is not subject to debate or choice.

Prophet Muhammad and his people immigrated from Mecca (Makkah) to Medina (Al-Madinah), as commanded by God (Allah), to avoid oppression of Mecca unbelievers and torture imposed by those unbelievers on helpless prophet Muhammad followers. This oppression reached the limit when the leaders of Mecca unbelievers plotted to assassinate prophet Muhammad.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) migrated per God command, to get better environment for calling for God worship as the one and only one God and for practicing Islam ritual worships and morals especially when God informed prophet Muhammad that unbelievers of Makkah (Mecca) set a plan to assassinate him.

Muhammed was born in al-Makkah (Mecca) to a powerful family. However, his ideas of Islam didn't catch on there as they had their own ways of doing things, including servicing the Kaaba ("Cube") a pagan temple that was the focus of a great annual economic pilgrimage. Yathrib, 329 kilometers to the north, however, was a city in turmoil, with three powerful Arab tribes and three Jewish ones involved in constantly shifting alliances. When the people of Yathrib heard that Muhammed was a Prophet, they asked him to come be their leader, hoping that he could bring peace, which, in a way, he did. Abandoning his hometown for the new city, he had it renamed al Medinat al Nabi ("The City of the Prophet") which we know today as Medina. He had the Jews either killed or sold into slavery and used the city as a base for military conquest, first raiding Meccan caravans and eventually conquering that city and executing his major opponents there. Now in a strong position controlled the pilgrimage route, he was able to weld the various Arab tribes into an effective army of conquest, which continued after his death in 632. Within (exactly) one hundred years, Islamic armies had invaded to the middle of France.
