Explain the significance of Peter throughout Jesus’ ministry and in the development of the early Church?

The Apostle Peter depicted several things in the Ministry of Jesus. He showed how close one can be with God. He was one of the closest to Jesus was free to express himself, ask or answer questions. Through his responses to Jesus we learnt with faith we can walk on water. He did when Jesus asked him to come to him on water but began to drown when he took his attention off Jesus. The significance of this is that our faith should be stable. Through Peter we see that God can speak through a man and the devil can too. If we are yielded to God, we hear his voice, if we are to the devil, same happens. When Jesus asked His disciples who people said He was, Peter answered correctly and Jesus said God revealed it to him, so Peter heard from God. When Peter reprimanded Jesus when He spoke about His death, Jesus rebuked Satan yet he was talking to Peter, so Peter yielded himself to the devel at that time. It was through Peter the early Church got to know that the Gentiles also were included in God's salvation plan.

Did Jesus love Peter?

This episode is to be found in John's Gospel, which says that the risen Jesus questioned Peter three times by the Sea of Galilee, just as Peter had previously denied Jesus three times. Jesus addressed him each time theatrically as "Simon, son of Jonah", not as Peter, the name always previously used by Jesus.John Carroll (The Existential Jesus) says that it was as if the scene was designed to humiliate Peter in front of the other disciples. He goes on to explain why Jesus asked Peter this question three times, although with subtle differences:The first time, Jesus asked about unconditional love (Greek: agape) and the question was comparative: "Do you love me more than these [the other disciples]?" Peter answered that he loves him, but only using the Greek word for friendly or brotherly love (philia). Not satisfied, Jesus again asked Peter, "Do you love me?" Again, Jesus asked about sacred love (agape) but this time did not ask whether Peter loved Jesus more than the others. Again, Peter replied with the Greek word for brotherly love (philia). In the third questioning, Jesus asked only whether Peter had brotherly love for him (philia). He accepted that this was the most that Peter would give. Peter was upset that it has been necessary to ask him three times. The subtext is that what really upset him was that his love was confirmed as less than unconditional.

Who was the disciple Simon Peter was asking Jesus about in John 21 verse 20?

Mary MagdaleneAnother answer:John 21:20, 21 - Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, "Lord, who is the one who betrays You?" Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, "But Lord, what about this man?"The disciple Peter asked about had "leaned on Jesus' breast at the supper" and asked who would betray Him.John 13:23, 24 - Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask who it was of whom He spoke. Then, leaning back on Jesus' breast, he said to Him, "Lord, who is it?""The disciple whom Jesus loved" was John's way of referring to himself in his gospel. Simon Peter was inquiring about John.[Quotes from NKJV]

Why was Mary Magdalene forgiven without asking forgiveness from Jesus?

I think you are assuming that she did not ask for forgiveness. Just because the bible does not record her repentance does not mean she did not ask. Jesus can not forgive unless we come to him and request forgiveness. Please look at Peter and how he denied Christ. Peter surely repented and yet the bible does not record him kneeling in prayer and begging for the pardon of God.
