Christians were told to preach to the Gentiles and Jews because they were falling away from the Lord's teaching. There were several times throughout The Bible where the Lord instructed the Prophets to teach the non-Christians to help save them and change their ways.

In terms of Christianity it means proclaiming the Gospel message to those who are not Jews. This term was most relevant in the very early days of the Christian church, when most Christians were Jewish.

What is the difference between Christians and gentiles?

Generally speaking gentiles are people that are not Jewish. However that is with the exception of some Jews that are also Christians. Normally, in the New Testament at least, the contrast is made between Jews (God's chosen people) and Gentiles (Non-Jews). Most Christians are in fact Gentiles at the same time, so the two groups are not exclusive. The same would apply to Jewish Christians. Of course it must not be forgotten that many Gentiles are also not Christian and so there would be a difference in terms of them accepting or not accepting Jesus Christ.

Are all Jews Christians?

Yes, although Jesus did preach that he had come to save all people and the ministry of St Paul initiated the spread of Christianity to non Jewish peoples in a major way. Peter was the first to bring the Gospel to the gentile Cornelius in Acts 10.Yes, Jesus was Jewish and his Apostles were definitely the first Christians and were also Jewish. Jesus sent the Apostle to preach only to the "lost sheep of the house of Israel" and commanded them "Go not into the way of the Gentiles, ....." Mark 10:5-6.It was Paul of Tarsus, who never walked with Jesus that broke his commandment and preached it to the Gentiles that resulted in present day Christianity.

When Paul became Christian did he persecute gentiles?

No - Paul felt a special calling to go to the gentiles and preach the Good News of Jesus to them. Answer 2: It was before (and not after) his conversion that Paul was persecuting Jewish Christians (not Gentiles). Then he had a special experience on the road to Damascus which turned his life around.

If Jesus commanded his Apostles not to preach to the Gentiles and later commanded Paul to preach to the Gentiles isn't Jesus contradicting himself?

Its most likely that because the Jews and Gentiles would of ignored Jesus when he claimed to be the son of God and to be the messiah so in other words, Jesus was fed up of preaching to them. Jesus told Paul the apostle to preach unto the Gentiles and Jews because to tell them "the good news". yes, Jesus contradicted himself.

Why did Muhammad preach tolerance for christians and Jews as people of the book?

Muhammad preached tolerance for Christians and Jews as People of the Book because they recognize the God of Abraham as the one and only god. Another reason is that Christians and Jews practice faiths that have been revealed through divine ordinances.
