The reason forgiveness is so important is 'if you don't forgive that person then they continue to control your life' because you resent them or they interfere with your every day life. Give respect and kindness, but expect it back! Even Christians aren't meant to be societies punching bags.

Yes Jesus always taught to forgive your enemies. But as we have only one life , it is not possible to repent after death and get away for your wrong doings and sinning.

The Bible says Jesus will bring all christians to heaven with him, so it is possible, but unlikely. His first death was to forgive christians for all their sins. There would be no reason to die again.
