Why do Jehovah's Witnesses go from house to house preaching?

Jehovah's Witnesses knock on peoples doors because they believe it is part of their Christian obligation to proclaim the gospel in line with their understanding of Matthew 28: 19, 20 which reads: "Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them [...] teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you." They therefore view public preaching as part of their worship.

There are many reasons why Jehovah's Witnesses preach from door to door:

* They are following the example of their leader and King, Jesus Christ, as declaring the good news of the Kingdom was his main work while he was here on earth. Also, Jesus' apostles and disciples in the first century shared in this important work. (John 18:37; Acts 20:20)

* They are obeying Jesus' explicit command stated at Matthew 28:19,20, to "Go . . . and make disciples of people of all the nations . . . teaching them . . ."

* They are obeying the second greatest command - to love ones' neighbor - thus sharing this life-saving knowledge with them at every opportunity. (Matthew 26:36-39; Mark 12:31; Luke 10;27)

* They are fulfilling the prophesy found at Matthew 24:14(and Mark 13:10), one of the signs of the last days, which states, "This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come."

In addition to knocking on doors, Jehovah's Witnesses preach by letter and telephone, at businesses and parks, on public transportation, by email and text messaging, on the streets, and informally wherever people may be found. As active Christians, they take Jesus' commission to preach and teach very seriously.

Yes, Jehovah's Witnesses definitely knock on doors. They do this because of what Jesus said at Matthew 28: 19, 20. He told his followers to go and make disciples of people of all the nations. So obeying that command, Jehovah's Witnesses go out and preach to people about God's Kingdom in hopes that they'll eventually have a Bible study and come to learn more about God and his promises.

The point is that we visit people at their own homes, where they can feel comfortable to speak as they wish. They do not feel the pressure from outsiders.

They are also given the opportunity by Jehovah God through his Witnesses, to listen; or to reject. We view this opportunity, as one of the touchstones which Jehovah will use, when it comes time to Judge mankind. Speaking of Judgment day, Jesus himself said: "What you did to the least of these my brothers, you did to me." Jesus mentions even the kindness of a drink of water; the hospitality shown to Jesus' brothers; is a criterion used in Judging.

Jehovah's Witnesses are NOT soliciting for membership. They are NOT soliciting for money.

Jehovah's Witnesses are asking that people learn about Jehovah God, the Creator of mankind. We are asking them to learn what Jehovah requires of them. We are asking them to obey Jehovah. We are asking that they reject all false religious teachings with pagan origins, as this dishonors Jehovah. We are asking that they distance themselves from anything false; and to draw close to the True Living God.

We are ambassadors and envoys of Jehovah God; and so everything we speak about, revolves around these requests. We want to see as many of mankind, to not be alienated from Jehovah any longer.
