Why do some Muslims not allow divorce?

According to Islam, marriage is a sacred bond between a man and woman. It is better for the partners to attempt to resolve their differences and live together happily than for people to simply divorce when the seas get rough.

Muslims do not divorce because ether the female/male may still want to keep the marriage. Therefore it should be a joint decision whether or not you divorce!

According to Islamic Law as officially promulgated, both the husband and the wife have an individual right to successfully petition for divorce provided that they can assert certain grievances. Therefore any man or woman should be able to divorce if those situations occur. However, in many Islamic societies, people do not follow Islamic Law per se, but Islamic Law hybridized with their own pre-Islamic societal norms and in many of those countries, women had no right to divorce her husband. This has led to many men believing that it is a Divine Right to prevent their woman from leaving them. Unfortunately, this problem is far too common and not confronted by the local Imams and Mullahs who benefit personally from their women's inability to express her Islamically-given rights.
