Why is dating not allowed in Islam?

Associations in university campuses. There Muslim girls and boys can meet in the company of their friends. It is pretty much like dating, but does not allow being alone with each other.

In Islam, if a boy likes a girl, he ought to get to know her in the company of friends, and get married to her, if they are compatible, the same thing goes for the girl.
