Why is the Dalai Lama living in India?

The Dalai lama is the spiritual leader of Tibet since it was invaded by the Chinese it was no longer safe for him to live there and still practice his religion. He now travels the world trying to secure freedom for his country.

Because when the Dalia Lama met Mao Zedong before he invaded Tibet, Mao told the Dalai Lama that he didn't believe in any religion and was going to eradicate them. So when the Chinese invaded he fled the country.

The Dalai Lama keeps his primary residence in Dharamsala, India in part because he was forced to leave Tibet in 1959 due to the Chinese invasion of his country. He eventually set up the government of his country in exile in the foothills of the Himalayas because the weather there is well-suited to the Tibetan refugees who still arrive there after escaping from the land of their birth.
