Why is there a large conversion from Christianity to Islam?

A true Christian would never convert to Islam. But these who are switching are the ones who think they will benefit in some way by converting. In actually they are still the same unbelievers that they were when they claimed to be Christian. We are glad to be rid of such people.

I don't think there have been many Christians converting to Islam, but there have been many Westerners (North America & Great Britain, etc.) who have become Muslims. One reason for this is because in Christianity a person must accept and confess that he/she is a sinner to receive salvation. You don't have to do that in Islam. If a "Christian" does convert to Islam, the person most likely was not a committed Christian to begin with.

One reason for a (few) conversions is marriage. According to Islamic tradition, a Muslim man can marry a Christian woman without either converting, but a Christian man must become a Muslim if he wants to marry a Muslim woman. This rule is gradually breaking down, but is still a potent way of attracting nett conversions to Islam.

Another reason, particularly among blacks and oppressed minorities, is that Christianity is sometimes associated with colonialism and oppression. Buddhism, for example, is most often too great a step to take, but some choose Islam in order to feel separated from Christianity.

The conversion actually goes both ways. Predominantly Christian countries are seeing Christians convert to Islam and predominantly Muslim countries are seeing Muslims convert to Christianity. The reasons are the same. People are dissatisfied with the religion in which they grow up and see the society in which they live plagued by particular issues, some of which they track to the values of their religion. They see in the other faith something that counteracts that perspective and, therefore, convert. The reason why the conversion from Christianity to Islam is more visibly popular than the conversion from Islam to Christianity is that Muslims who convert out of Islam in Muslim-majority communities and countries are subject to violence and government-sanctioned repression, which leads to them keeping quiet. Conversely, Christians who convert to Islam are, at most disowned, but often suffer no adversity for their choice.

A large factor in conversation rates is preaching to others. Although there are a few Christian religions that are active in their preaching work, Islam as a whole, are the more aggressive preachers and sharers of their faith.

In the western lands, an increasing number of people view many of the religions of Christianity to be corrupt, judgmental, or not in line with what The Bible teaches on certain matters. Thus, there are a growing number of people who have lost interest in any organized religion. Islam offers more of a chance to practice an individual faith and not one shared with a congregation. That tends to appeal to a lot of people.

Another reason is that Islam, in general, has not backed off it's principles where as some Christian religions have watered down their beliefs in an attempt to appease public opinion. That could actually work against them in some cases of people who appreciate devoutness.

Another factor could be that all the media coverage of Islamic extremists actually intrigues certain individuals that have disdain for the way the world condition has deteriorated. This could give them an avenue to voice their disdain, even though the actions of these extremists are not in line with popular Islam.
