The preacher was sleeping with his wife.

It would be the effect of the ideas from the Neoplatonic movement. The ideas challenged the very foundation of the controlling religion. Man no longer needed a priest or church to communicate with God or to read/own a bible. This break with the church allowed the arts to move away religious themes and figures and to bring new ideas. A good example of this is Michelangelo's Sistine paintings. He has man reaching and touching the hand of God. A few years before the very thought of man not needing the church would bring excommunication to the person who suggested such an idea.
A Earthbank would be your best bet man.
The non-Catholic would need to have his marriage annulled by the church before they are free to marry, as the catholic church recognizes the validity of the Presbyterian marriage. If annulment is approved, he does not need to join the Catholic Church, but must be willing to consent to her oath to bring up any children as catholic

The Catholic church was the only religion in the middle ages and it taught that man was born in sin and to reach heaven he needed to do as the church told him. The church was seen as the "middle man" between man and God. If a person was excommunicated by the church he/she would not be saved and that there would be no salvation for them.
The Isle of Man used to be divided into parish grounds which were controlled by the church. Kirk is Manx for church and each area would sometimes be referred to as "Kirk Marown" for the Marown parish. This could also be referring to the parish church building itself.
A good husband would not, especially if they are of different religions.

A priest in the Catholic Church is a man called from the faithful to be another Christ. He administers the sacraments, he preaches, but his main duty is to offer the sacrifice of the altar, to stand as Christ offering His Body and Blood to the Father for our salvation. He is to be Christ for the people and to bring them to Him.
