Reference the Biblical book of Exodus. God set Aaron, Moses' brother, to be the first High Priest of Israel. To be a High Priest, one had to be a direct descendant of Aaron as required by God and was to carry out the requirements instituted by God. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
Saint Peter's ear was not stabbed. Peter cut off the ear of a servant of the high priest in the Garden of Olives at the time of Christ's arrest.
The Priest: receives the power of forgiving sin and of offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. He is made another Christ; a living representative of the Redeemer, Whose work he continues..Catholic AnswerThe priest receives all the graces that he needs to fulfill his role as an "alter Christus" (another Christ) for the people. As their priest he may perform all the sacraments, except Holy Orders. He may only administer Confirmation under special circumstances or with the permission of the his Bishop. The Sacrament of Holy Orders configures the recipient to Christ by a special grace of the Holy Spirit so that he may act as a representative of Christ in his triple office of priest, prophet, and King. He is configured to Christ as Priest, Teacher, and Pastor. from The Catechism of the Catholic Church, second edition, English translation 19941548 In the ecclesial service of the ordained minister, it is Christ himself, who is present to his Church as Head of his Body, Shepherd of this flock, high priest of the redemptive sacrifice, Teacher of Truth. This is what the Church means by saying that the priest, by virtue of the sacrament of Holy Orders, acts in persona Christi Capitis; (Cf. Lumen Gentium 10; 28; Sacrosanctum concilium 33; Christus Dominus 11; Prsbyterorum ordinis 2; 6)Is it he same priest, Christ Jesus, whose sacred person his minister truly represents. Now the minister, by reason of the sacerdotal consecration which he has received, is truly made like to the high priest and possesses the authority to act in the power and place of the person of Christ himself (virtute ac persona ipsius Christi). Pius XII, encylical, Mediator Dei: Acta Apostolicae Sedis, 39 {1947} 548)Christ is the source of all priesthood: the priest of the old law was a figure of Christ, and the priest of the new law acts in the person of Christ. Melchizedek is a person from the Old Testament who as king and priest reminds us of Jesus and some believe was the Pre-incarnate Jesus Christ. In the Authorised King James Version of 1611 he appeared as Melchizedek in the Old Testament and Melchisedec in the New Testament. In either case, Melchizedek was introduced as king of Salem (now called Jerusalem) and priest of the Most High that encountered Abraham in Genesis 14:18-20. In Book of Hebrews, Jesus is described as a priest forever from the order of Melchizedek.
The source of the priesthood is Jesus Christ who is considered as the high priest.
Our Blessed Lord, Jesus Christ, celebrated the first Catholic Mass the night before He suffered and died. It is in the Bible in Mark 14, Matthew 26, Luke 22, and talked about in John 6, and 1 Corinthians 11.

He is our great High Priest as he knows the feeling of our infirmities, being in all points tempted as we are, and yet without sin. In fact, being the Lamb of God, he takes away the sin of the world.
The book of Hebrews is about the nation going back to Judiasm because they are being persecuted, but said to be author Paul is telling them that everything in Christ is better. Therefore, the book of Hebrews is pretty much about how everything in Christ is better. It talks about how they are starting to go back to having one high priest who can enter into the holy of holies once a year to sacrifice an animal to simply push back the wrath ofGod from their sins. But in Christ His blood has completely washed away our sins and that the temple is now heaven and Christ is the one and only high priest.

What is it these men testify against You?" But Jesus kept silent. What further need do we have of witnesses? Look, now you have heard His blasphemy!" [NKJV]
Immediately after His arrest, He was taken to the high priest's house. John tells of a "short stop" at the high priest's father-in-law's house first.
