Humanism is a naturalistic, non-religious philosophy of life (though the word can be used in other ways). There are two specifically humanist annual festivals - Darwin Day on February 12 and World Humanist Day on June 21. Humanists will also value Human Rights Day (10 December), International Women's Day (8 March), World Environment Day (5 June), World Peace Day (21 September) and other such days. Humanists are happy also to celebrate the (pre-Christian) midwinter festival now known as Christmas - some label it Newton Day as Isaac newton was born on December 25.
Humanists do not have specific festivals in the same way that religious communities do. However, some Humanist organizations may hold events or gatherings to celebrate ethical values, human rights, or scientific achievements. These celebrations often focus on promoting a sense of community and shared human values.
Some see humanism in terms of a naturalistic philosophy that rejects all supernaturalism and relies primarily upon reason and science, democracy and human compassion. However, it is possible to be both religious and a humanist.
There are no festivals specific to humanism. In any event, humanists, whether religious or not, will probably celebrate Christmas and other traditional festivals, just like anyone else.
