Not having seen the history channel program I can only comment generally. The statement as put in the question would be absolutely correct and it would also apply to the Hiddekel (thought to be the Tigris) and Euphrates Rivers as well.
The worldwide flood of Noah's day would have wiped out all the pre-existing geography. Many working under the local flood model assume that the two rivers we do know today are the same as those that were before (as mentioned in Genesis 2:11-14). The names are the same but that is about all since the geography would have dramatically altered. Noah and those who followed him used the names of the pre-existing rivers that were familiar to him, and applied them to the new rivers although different.
Thus it is certainly correct that we cannot identify the Pishon and the Gihon. In fact it would be unlikely anything would have been recognizable from the 'first world.'
