Tradition states that Abraham was seventy years old in Genesis 15, when God promised him the Holy Land and many descendants (midrash Seder Olam, ch.1). However, the exact quote in your question ("A great nation") is probably from Genesis 12:2, when Abraham was 75 years old. See also:
