There are over 85 million Anglicans, including over 2 million Episcopalians in the U.S. I am a proud Episcopalian for over 39 years now. Our spiritual leader is the Archbishop of Canterbury, who acts as the Primate of the Anglican Communion. Even though he is the official head of our church-he is not like the
Roman Catholic Pope. He is not indefalable! We are the 3rd branch of Catholicism-the Roman and Orthodox being the other 2 branches. We do not consider ourselves as being Protestant but as a bridge between Roman Catholics and liberal, mainline Protestant denominations like the Lutherans and the United Methodists as well as the Presbyterian Churches. We believe there are 7 Sacraments as commanded by Jesus Christ and the early church, and believe in the Apostolic Succession. We have Bishops, Priests, and Deacons throughtout the Anglican Communion. In most countries within our church, we have Archbishops as well. We have numerous abbots th nunneries throughout the church. If you attend a typical service, you would find very little difference between us and the Roman Catholic Church in terms of rituals and style of worship. We have beautiful cathedrals and parishes which glorifies all that is beautiful and relevant to our christian lives and the traditions of our church. We are also willing, unlike other denominations, to tackle head-on, the issues of our day. We always opposed slavery in the 19th century, and have taken the lead in allowing all people, including gays and lesbians, to serve as Bishops and Priests or any position within the church. We are an inclusive church that strongly believes that we are all created in God's image and are accepted unconditionally! We have lost members over time, but following Christ's example , is not always easy. I hope you will find the time to attend one of our services and to experience the richness of our faith!
