communist culturesAlso Buddhists don't believe in god. Many Japanese people believe in a number of gods, as do some Hindus. Many indigenous tribesman of both the great plains of America and Australia didn't believe in one god. Some Aborigines believed in the transmigration of the soul (although they didn't call it that.) Before the Egyptians and also Zarathustra, most people believed in multiple gods who coexisted with humans. It was the Egyptians and Zarathustra who began the belief in One god instead of many. And many of the stories from the old testament mirror stories told by these Egyptians and Zarathustra. (Long winded aren't I.)

The Buddha in the present cycle is Siddhartha Gautama (563 BC) who was born in a small kingdom in present day Nepal. After a renunciation of his kingdom and a long period of asceticism, he became enlightened and began teaching. His sermons form the school of philosophy called Buddhism"Two kinds of buddhas are distinguished: the pratyeka-buddha, who is completely enlight ened but does not expound the teaching; and the samyak-sambuddha, who expounds for the wel fare of all beings the teaching that he has discovered anew. A samyak-sambuddha is omniscient (sarvajnata) and possesses the ten powers of a buddha (dashabala) and the four certainties. The buddha of our age is Shakyamuni.
Because people interpret things differently and want to believe it (what they believe) their way. For example: Even when Paul the Apostle was still alive and preaching the word, he had to deal with this very problem. Some said they were followers of Jesus, some said Paul, etc. He tried to explain there should be no confusion about this, he was not crucified for their sins. That the church should not become divided like this. Today, some people believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit others do not, and it goes on and on. I am sure this is what happen in many religions.

Buddha and his family were Hindu before Buddha became enlightened. In areas where Buddhism came in as an "alternate" belief the peoples had many beliefs - Taoist, Confucian, Christian.
Yes,Buddha is not considered a God. Buddha is to Hinduism as Jesus is to Christianity. Gautama Buddha was born a Hindu, but tried to reform Hinduism.Buddhism has been referred to as Hinduism lite for that reason. Buddha founded Buddhism in India, but it is much more popular in China than India where Hinduism is still the dominant religion.Hindus actually only believe in one god, Brahma, but they believe that Brahma has many faces. The fact that they have names for the many faces of Brahma leads to misunderstandings and is one of the reasons for conflicts with Muslims.
the buddha opposed the Caste System
