Many indigenous tribesman of both the great plains of America and Australia didn't believe in one god. Some Aborigines believed in the transmigration of the soul (although they didn't call it that.) Before the Egyptians and also Zarathustra, most people believed in multiple gods who coexisted with humans. It was the Egyptians and Zarathustra who began the belief in One god instead of many. And many of the stories from the Old Testament mirror stories told by these Egyptians and Zarathustra. (Long winded aren't I.)
